DESCRIPTION
The VA2000 is a hands-free Voice Recognition speaker phone, which allows voice command
automatic dialing for outgoing telephone calls and hands-off answering of incoming phone calls.
Up to Sixty numbers can be preset in memory (45 phone numbers and 15 pager numbers) and can be dialed
by saying a name. Answering calls are done with simple voice commands. Automatic hang-up of calls occur
about 5 seconds after the other party hangs up their line. Auto hang-up also occurs for busy tones, or if there
is no answer to the automatically dialed call. DIRECTIONS Place phone on desk or tabletop in quiet location.
This location should be near a standard 120v ac outlet. Plug the phone into the ac adapter, before plugging
the adapter into the ac outlet. (If battery operation is preferred rather than ac power, connect a 9-volt
alkaline battery not included- under the battery cover on the back of the phone.
Note that if battery voltage is low, the phones HOLD key LED light will blink about every 10 seconds.
In that case, replace the battery.) Connect phone into the house modular phone jack using the provided phone
line. Programming voice recognition features: Refer to User’s Manual Chapter 5. Use the quiet installation
location to record voice commands for best performance. Follow verbal instructions given by the phone as various
buttons are activated to be followed by user voice commands. Use a normal speaking voice and tone to use

telephone numbers. To illustrate how to train a number for voice command dialing, these instructions will set the
phone up to call Southwest Human Development. You press and release “Function” key. If there are no numbers
previously stored in memory, the phone system says, ”Welcome to VA Systems.” It then always says,
“Please select a directory. You are to press and release “1 (or 2 or 3) button”. Note up to 16 numbers can be
stored in each of these 3 directories. The system says, “Directory One (or Two or Three). Please enter a name.
” Note that the Function LED light comes on. After the LED is on, you say, “Southwest.” The system says,
“Please enter the phone number followed by # sign.” You then press phone number “602 266 5976 #”.
If you are outside area codes 602, 623 or 480, you will need to add a “1” in front of “602”. Notice that the
system gives auditory confirmation as you press each phone key. Now you have completed programming
number. To add other numbers, repeat steps b to step h. If all memory storage is used up, the system
will say, “Memory full.” Placing a call. Press the number of the directory where number was programmed.
Note if no name has been recorded, the system will respond “Beep Beep”. The system says, “Please say a name.”
You then say, “Southwest”. You should observe that the speakerphone comes on and the Southwest number
is dialed out. Hopefully receptionist answers! If no answer in 30 seconds or if the phone line is busy, the phone

This method inserts a “Password” which is used for two significant features of this system. The first is to activate
hands-free answering with Voice Command. Second is activation of hands-free dialing capability with Voice
Command. IDEAS This phone can be used by anyone who wishes to dial out telephone calls hands-free.
Also, hands-free voice command answering service is a powerful feature for persons with physical disabilities.
